In the past, research on stress and depression has focused on the negative effects of stress, rather than its positive benefits.
However, recent studies have demonstrated that positive moods have a multitude of health benefits, including reducing the risk of dementia, cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Fortunately there are ways to create a comfortable environment that improves your quality of life and helps you cope with daily stress.

Comforting and calming
You’re not alone if you sometimes feel that the world is getting more and more stressful. There are many reasons for this, but it can be helpful to know that having plants in your home can help reduce stress and anxiety.
In fact, researchers from Harvard University found that people who live with plants tend to have lower levels of cortisol–the hormone that increases during times of stress–and higher amounts of serotonin (the “happy” neurotransmitter).
It’s also true that having plants around helps us sleep better at night!
Researchers at the University of Sheffield found that students who had green walls or window blinds nearby fell asleep faster than those who didn’t have them nearby: they went into a deeper state of REM sleep faster too!
Feelings of being at peace
Plants can help relieve stress and anxiety, which are both linked to poor mental health. Studies have shown that people who have plants in their offices report feeling more relaxed and less stressed than those without plants in their offices.
Plants also help us focus on the present, rather than worrying about what lies ahead or dwelling on the past. They’re an easy way to bring nature indoors and make us feel connected with our environment–which is especially important when you live in an urban area where there isn’t much greenery around!

Culture, history and memories
Plants are a part of our culture.
They have been used in religious ceremonies and rituals since ancient times, and they were often used as a symbol of life, death and rebirth.
The Egyptians used lotus flowers to represent fertility, while the Greeks used olive trees to symbolize peace.
Plants have also been associated with specific beliefs or values throughout history: for example, many Christians believe that basil is a holy plant that wards off evil spirits because Saint Francis carried around his own little pot of basil wherever he went!
Satisfaction from a job well done
You can have that same satisfaction, achievement and feeling of completion by having a plant in the room.
It will be your responsibility to take care of it and make sure it has proper light, water and food so that it can grow into something beautiful.
You will feel proud when you see how much progress your plant has made since you first got it.

Placing plants in your home or at work can be a great way to improve your mood. They are a beautiful addition to any room and they can also help you feel better. We hope that now you some ideas about how to incorporate more plants into your life as I have filled up my art studio wih some beauties recently and feel so much joy by doing it.
